Hahn Wines

Hahn Wines traces its roots to the late 1970s, when Swiss-born Nicky and Gaby Hahn arrived in Monterey County and recognised the potential of the cool-climate Santa Lucia Highlands. Their first vintage was produced in 1980, and Nicky Hahn went on to become a driving force behind gaining official recognition for the region. Beginning the application process in 1988, his efforts contributed significantly to the establishment of the Santa Lucia Highlands as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 1991. This pioneering commitment helped bring greater recognition to a region that is today particularly celebrated for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Hahn’s vineyards benefit from the distinctive conditions of Monterey County, where cooling winds from Monterey Bay, plentiful sunshine and well-drained soils create a long growing season and gradual ripening. In the Santa Lucia Highlands, the estate vineyards extend along elevated slopes reaching up to approximately 1,200 feet, providing particularly favourable conditions for expressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Hahn’s portfolio today ranges from approachable Monterey County wines to estate-grown Santa Lucia Highlands bottlings, combining generous fruit with freshness, balance and cool-climate character.
