Giuseppe Gorelli

Giuseppe Gorelli is a deeply rooted figure in Montalcino, with a winemaking career spanning several decades and closely tied to the evolution of Brunello di Montalcino. His experience includes working with the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino and many years in close contact with the celebrated Tuscan oenologist Giulio Gambelli, one of Italy’s great authorities on Sangiovese. Gorelli later played a central role in establishing Le Potazzine, founded in 1993, where he crafted traditionally styled Brunello and helped build the estate’s reputation. After leaving Le Potazzine, he embarked on a new chapter, returning to his roots and producing wines under the Gorelli name, with the 2018 vintage marking the first Brunello released from this new project.

Gorelli works with approximately six hectares of vineyards in Montalcino, with the majority situated on the cooler northern side of the appellation and a smaller parcel near Sant’Angelo in Colle to the south. Sangiovese is at the heart of the estate, expressed through Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino and Toscana Sangiovese. His approach draws on decades of intimate knowledge of the variety and Montalcino’s diverse terroirs, with an emphasis on precision, freshness and the distinctive character of Sangiovese. Combining a lifetime of Montalcino experience with a highly personal, small-scale project, Giuseppe Gorelli represents the work of an established Brunello craftsman entering a new chapter under his own name.
