Cascina Roccalini

Cascina Roccalini is a small, artisanal estate in Barbaresco, led by winemaker Paolo Veglio in the historic Roccalini area of the Langhe. Paolo grew up working his family’s vineyards and, after studying oenology, began producing wine under the Cascina Roccalini name in the early 2000s. Before establishing his own production, the family’s grapes had for years been sold to renowned Barbaresco producer Bruno Giacosa, reflecting the quality and potential long recognised in the Roccalini vineyards. With the support of experienced oenologist Dante Scaglione, formerly associated with Bruno Giacosa, Paolo began vinifying the family-grown fruit himself, establishing Cascina Roccalini as an independent expression of this distinctive Barbaresco terroir.
The estate follows a traditional, terroir-focused approach, with vineyards cultivated without herbicides or synthetic chemical products and significant woodland retained around the property to support biodiversity. In the cellar, fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts, with long skin macerations and traditional vessels including cement and stainless steel, while Barbaresco is matured in large Slavonian oak rather than small barriques. The wines are bottled without clarification or filtration. Combining small-scale production, traditional Nebbiolo winemaking and a distinctive Barbaresco origin, Cascina Roccalini produces wines defined by the elegance, depth and character of the Langhe.
